The County Government of Trans Nzoia in collaboration with Water Mission International, the school administration and parents have launched borehole worth Sh4million at Kitale School in Trans Nzoia County.
The borehole is expected to serve at least 1,000 students, teaching and non teaching staff.
Speaking during the commissioning of the project at the school, County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of Water, Natural Resources and Environment Maurice Lokwaliwa said it will enable the students to access clean and safe water.
He said the project is one of the interventions in which the County Government is partnering with various organisations to increase access to clean water in Trans Nzoia.
He noted that in 2013 access to clean water stood at 18.3 per cent but has now been increased to 35 per cent targeting to reach at least 50 per cent of the population in a five year period.
Kitale School Principal Margret Wanyonyi said the project will alleviate perennial water shortage in the school that was affecting learning.
