Trans Nzoia County Government has been asked to set aside sanitary towels kitty for school going girls in bid boost school retention.
Speaking at Tuwan Primary School, Kitale during distribution of pads, nominated MCA Milcah Sugut said the county assembly is set to pass a bill to set aside fundsfor the noble programme.
Sugut said girls are missing classes during their menstrual periods, adding that majority of parents cannot afford the pads for the children due to poverty.
“Girls from poor families struggle to stay at school for lack of pads. Women MCAs are pushing for the passing of legislation to have a special fund for affirmative action which will address such issues,” Sugut noted.
Human rights activist Immaculate Shamala called upon well wishers assistthe girls by providing the pads.
