The Senate Standing Committee on Education members have urged Busia County to promote enrollment in Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) among school leavers and dropouts to boost skills in the county.

Speaking on Thursday, when the committee toured several learning institutions in Busia County to assess the state of VTCs and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) facilities, senators underscored the importance of vocational training in addressing youth unemployment

“The youth who have completed Form Four or dropped out of school should be encouraged to enroll in VTCs to acquire skills that can help them earn a living,” Senator Montet said

The senator further directed Busia County Assembly Education Committee Chair, Agnes Nangami, to compile and submit a detailed report on the status of all VTCs in the county within 30 days.

Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar, a member of the Committee, called on the County Department of Education to expedite the construction of ECDE classrooms, saying early learning forms the cornerstone of future educational success.
