Senator urges local artists to anchor their work on education

Kisii County Senator Prof. Sam Ongeri has asked local artists to compose and perform songs and plays that praise education.

Speaking at his Gesusu home in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency, the senator decried the growing rebellion by youth towards education and attributed it to over exposure to media and other armful resources online.

The senator who was one time the Minister for Education asked the government to construct social halls at every constituency to carter for the interests of the youth who are yearning for knowledge.

He asked adults to embrace good moral behavior as they are role models for the youths.

Senator Ongeri who has declared interest in the Kisii County Gubernatorial seat highlighted a few justifications that makes him best fit for the position.

He revealed that when he was the Minister for Education, he used his position to transform some schools like St. Angela Sengera Girls School and Kenyenya Teachers’ Training College.

“My record of development stands clearly and I call upon the voters to refer to it before giving their votes,” he said.

The Professor who one time a personal doctor to the  late President Daniel Moi, asked parents and teachers to guide their children well on career choices that will place them in  the better job market, although it  is saturated with unemployed youths.

“Let our sons and daughters embrace strong careers like Medicine, Engineering and Survey to enable them stand better chances in the labor market,” he advised.

He promised that once he gets elected as governor, his first task will be the  revival of libraries in the county for youth to be engaged in research on quality education and agriculture.
