Kisumu Senator Professor Tom Ojienda has set aside Ksh 8.3 million to support bright but needy students.

Ojienda said that a total of 700,000 students, who are bright but their parents cannot afford to raise fees across the county, will benefit from the funds.

Speaking at his office compound where he handed over cheques to 30 beneficiaries, Ojienda said the funds are from his personal account.

The senator who is a Senior Counsel urged the beneficiaries to work hard so that they uplift the situation of their families.

Ojienda, who was flanked by Members of County Assembly (MCAs) Vincent Obuya of Central Nyakach ward and Guard Olima of South West Nyakach ward, said that politics should be de-linked from education development matters.

The MCAs assured Ojienda of their support in his endeavors to uplift the living standards of the residents.
