As colleges and universities prepare for reopening, South Eastern Kenya University has embarked on massive production of hand sanitizers.

Speaking during the official launch of the mass production of hand sanitizers, SEKU Vice chancellor Geoffrey Muluvi said the University has invested Sh.2 million for the setting up of the hand sanitizer production plant to cater for the safety of over 10,000 people under its care.

“The textile department is making face masks which we intend to sell to our students at a subsidized price to make sure that all the government mitigation on coronavirus are observed,” added Muluvi.

He affirmed that the University will be fully prepared for reopening by September saying that the school will have gadgets and hand washing machines placed at strategic points within the institution. He added that social distancing will be observed in offices, hostels and lecture halls.

According to Dr Stephen Musyoka a lecturer in the department of physical sciences, the plant makes 1000 half-litre bottles of sanitizer a day at its full capacity.

“We are making one of the best sanitizer available after our intense research. We hope for the best as we continue fighting against Covid-19 pandemic,” added Dr Musyoka.
