Security has been beefed up at the TSC offices in Iten town, Elgeyo Marakwet County, after tens of KUPPET members attempted to storm their offices.

Under the leadership of branch Executive Secretary Paul Biwott, they tried to gain entry into the premises but they were already secured against any external aggression.

Subdued, the striking teachers observed that apart from their CBA, they had other issues they wanted addressed.

Addressing the press, Biwott hit out at the County TSC Director, accusing him of refusing to address the problems raised by teachers.

“Apart from salaries, we also want teachers’ working environment improved. Unfortunately, TSC has become adamant and is not willing for talks,” he noted.

According to him, teachers will not be intimidated into returning to work, stating that the National Governing Council is the only organ mandated to call off the strike.

Biwott also blamed school principals for preventing teachers from participating in the strike, adding that the strike will persist until all their demands are met.

“Principals, who are the biggest beneficiaries of our strikes, are trying to block teachers from taking part in the strike. Before you are a principal, you are a teacher and you need to support our cause,” added Biwott.

In Kilgoris, Narok County, KUPPET officials have castigated TSC for using the Judiciary to curtail the strike, vowing to stay put.

The officials also decried the high number of principals and deputy principals serving on acting capacities without allowances in the area, further urging all teachers to support the strike for it to bear fruit.
