More than 400 secondary school principals from Kitui County have undergone training on financial address management, and mental health.

The training aimed to equip school heads with skills in financial planning, work organization, and coping with stress, in response to the increasing challenges in the education sector.

Speaking during the official launch of their annual conference at Reef Hotel in Mombasa County, Kitui KESSHA chapter chairperson Jacqueline Kusunza said this year’s forum brought together various experts to guide and advise principals on curriculum development, financial management, and mental wellness for improved service delivery.

Kusunza said that the training, themed “CBC Pathways in Senior Secondary Schools.” is timely, given the growing pressure on school leaders to navigate academic demands, limited resources, and student welfare issues.

“As principals, we work under immense pressure, and it often leads to stress. Today, we’ve had the opportunity to receive guidance from various professionals on how to manage it,” she said.

Kusunza added that by the end of the three-day conference, the principals would have acquired vital knowledge and skills in managing finances and mental health.

She said the knowledge gathered would not only enhance their leadership capacity but also improve the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and overall service delivery in schools.

The training also included sessions on leadership development and policy interpretation, aimed at strengthening institutional governance and accountability.

“The conference will be further focusing on empowering educators to effectively implement CBC pathways. The sessions include strategies for enhancing curriculum development and improving teacher preparedness for the new learning pathways introduced under CBC,” she said.

Additionally, she added that participants will explore the importance of integrating digital learning, particularly for the arts and sports pathways in senior schools taking into consideration the digital platforms to lower the cost of delivering the specialized areas while expanding access and opportunities for learners.
