Eastern region’s drama festivals kicked off in Katoloni Secondary School of Machakos County on Monday and will go on till Thursday. The event has attracted several secondary schools from eight counties.
It has also brought together counties namely; Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Meru, Isiolo and Marsabit. All counties had schools with different items under the theme ‘Fostering digital transformation through film and theater’.
The Chief Guest during the opening ceremony was Machakos County Deputy Governor, Francis Mwangangi who said that the county will support education and sports to the latter.
He added that the county government in collaboration with education stakeholders will develop talent academies for sports, games, theatre and films for early identification, development and nurturing of talents.
He called upon students to explore their talents fully even as they work hard in class.
Regional Quality Assurance and Standards officer, Simon Maina, called upon students to desist from drug abuse which has ruined the lives of many.
He said as a region they want to nurture talents so that they do not go to waste.
The host principal, Francis Ndimu, said it was an honor to host the regional event, pointing out that one of the reasons is that they have one of the biggest halls in the county.
“If you notice, we have a big parking field which has been flattened. Our school is also known for drama. Again the hosting is rotational for counties and happy that this year Machakos is the host,” Ndimu.
He also pointed out that he is happy with the resumption of sports since when one learns through plays, it enhances discipline and learning as well as exploring talents.
The same school hosted secondary schools sub county drama festivals, primary school regional drama festivals and now it is now hosting secondary school regionals drama festivals.
