The Kenya Secondary School Heads Association wants the Government to establish a school of teaching for graduating teachers.
KESSHA Chairperson Kahi Indimuli, while addressing the media on the 18-point statement with recommendations to the Ministry of Education, said the School of Teaching will serve teachers just like the Kenya School of Law is serving law student graduates.
He spoke at the end of the 43rd KESSHA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mombasa recently, adding that the school will inculcate teaching skills and values and attitudes in tutors.
“This is to ensure teachers maintain etquette (ethics and ethos) as set out in the constitution and TSC code of regulations, as in the Education Act. The same will ensure teachers are professional in all they do,” noted Indimuli.
He further said the school will serve as a professional institution for teachers which will provide teachers with requisite skills to enable them deliver as they inseminate knowledge skills, values and also handle clients professionally.
The teachers also said Kenya National Examination Council should, at all times, support and promote integrity of examinations, adding that there should not be any form of activities in schools on third term of each year.
Indimuli said the heads want KNEC to stick to its current testing format, and in case of any changes inform the principals at the earliest moment possible.
The chairman promised they will collaborate with Government in the Big Four Agenda: Food, Manufacturing, Housing and health.
Teachers condemned gender-based violence in schools, and pledged to work with Government’s security agencies in ensuring each child is safe and secure.
They told the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to release co-curricular activity funds by January 5 and May 1 every year without any delay.
Indimuli said National Health Insurance Fund should ensure that students are treated for ailments in their schools including expectant ones.
On de-localisation he said it should have guidelines, consideration of age, health and be done in humanely without hurting the person of a teacher.
