Five public primary schools that were shut down months ago in Boni Forest, Lamu East sub-county over insecurity fears have been reopened.
Lamu County Director of Education (CDE) Zachary Mutuiri said that the government had intensified safety measures to ensure optimal students’ and teachers’ security.
Speaking to Education News in Lamu town recently, Mutuiri said that Basuba, Marara, Mangai, Kiogwe and Milimani Primary schools were now safe for learners to resume their education in January.
The Director called on parents to return their children to the school, stating that security threats have been neutralized.
Mutuiri further urged parents and guardians to ensure their children enroll in school, warning that parents who deny learners of their right to education will be arrested and prosecuted.
He also asked them to assist teachers in instilling discipline into school children, highlighting that discipline is a key factor towards success.
