It’s time for heads of institutions to create a modern staffroom where teachers can relax and break from the demands of the classroom, allowing teachers to recharge and even socialise.
As often as not, most of the staffrooms resemble abandoned museums with outdated, patched papers on the wall, some shame shockingly dating back to 1970s, exhibiting a sense of, “I have gone through hard times”.
An ideal staffroom should have an extremely modern and fascinating look that is appealing to the occupants and even visitors. It should be comfortable, inviting and have to promote relaxation and productivity.
It’s unacceptable to learn that even as most heads of institutions are struggling to make their staffroom welcoming, some are simply a tapestry of old materials,a collage of crumbling plaster, faded wallpaper and weathered brick.
Very virtuous heads of institutions have transformed the staffrooms to a state-of-the-art status, developing a sense of calmness and hard work
Others have not simply upgraded them, making them a real manifestation of deterioration, showing signs of absolute wear and tear. The wall is simply still a mix of different materials whose uniformity is lacking. The walls have seen better days.

While in other staffrooms we have very comfortable seats, some staffrooms have seats that have lost their colour and vibrancy over a period of time and are creaky since some or most parts make unnecessary noise when sat on.
Quite a number of these seats are very uncomfortable, and the fabric is splitting, there are loose springs, and they have completely lost their structural integrity and support.
Staffrooms require Television sets. They are very handy and enriching, leading to professional development, fostering staff engagement and creating a more welcoming environment.
Some furniture gives a sense of antiquity, while others are vintage and may suppress smoothness in preparation for teachers’ work.
As teachers watch television, sports and education programs that serve as tools of continuous learning and provision of opportunities for deep discussion.
The same has been known to relieve people from stress and can provide a break from the domestic and professional pressure, leading to relaxation and rejuvenation.
