The Uasin Gishu County has in the last two years received Sh 416 million from the Ministry of Education to support infrastructure development in 122 secondary schools as the Government pushes to achieve 100 per cent student transition from primary to secondary schools.
The County Director of Education (CDE), Dr Nicodemus Ojima said that during the 2016/2017 financial year the county was allocated Sh 313 million for infrastructure development in 87 secondary schools.
“Some 83 of the projects are complete while four are ongoing. We want to ensure that each and every school has facilities which can sustain learning,” he explained.
Speaking to Education News recently in Eldoret town, Ojima said in the 2017/2018 financial year the county got Sh103 million to finance projects in 35 secondary schools that was released in two tranches.
On the recent arson incidents in many schools countrywide, the official said 25 students from the county who had taken part in burning of schools have so far been arrested and arraigned in court.
He said three secondary schools suffered arson attacks, while two others were saved from flames on the nick of time by alert security and school managements.
Earlier, Uasin Gishu County Commissioner, Abdi Hassan warned students against engaging in criminal activities, warning that anybody, whether adult or minor found engaging in crime will be prosecuted.
“Any criminal activity is an offence and whoever commits it will face the full force of the law,” Hassan warned.
