The ban on holiday tuition appears to have been either defied or ignored by various schools after students reported the infamous holiday tuition across the country.
This is happening after teachers concluded retooling last Friday, only to embark on an activity that many parents are terming as burdensome and a contravention of the MoE policy.
Education News has learnt that many schools in Western, Rift Valley, Central, and Nyanza are bringing their Form Four and Form Three students to school for well-choreographed holiday tuition.
The students are advised not to wear their official school uniform. They are asked to carry their instructional materials in bags that can’t be mistaken for school bags.
In some Rift Valley counties, parents are forced to pay up to Sh3000 per student for holiday tuition.
Parents are further informed that their children will be exposed to the question-answering techniques necessary for tackling the KCSE.
This is believed to be a ploy to ensure all students attend the tuition without fail.

“Despite it being this costly, I am pushed to ensure that my daughter attends these holiday classes,” said Hudson Pepela, a parent from Bungoma town.
In what seems to shock many, some schools in Nyanza have gone a step further to have their Junior School learners also attend holiday tuition.
In March this year, Education News reported that despite heavy investments by the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission to retool teachers and sensitise stakeholders on curriculum reform, many teachers were still determined to employ 8-4-4 pedagogies and practices in dealing with Competency-Based Education.
