A girl in primary school is fighting for her life after she was hit by a speeding boda boda at Nyatieko junction in Kisii town.
The Nyatieko Primary school pupil, 11, was hit while on her way home from church.
“A bodaboda operator was riding at very high speed and lost control, hitting her from behind. He immediately fled after realizing that residents wanted to lynch him,” an eye witness, Dauglas Mokaya, told Education News.
The girl was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) for treatment while the police launched a manhunt for the culprit.
KTRH CEO, Oimeke Mariita, confirmed the incident saying that the girl suffered face and elbow injuries but her condition was stable.

He appealed to parents and teachers to guide children on road safety rules.
Following the incident, residents of Nyatieko have asked the county government to erect road bumps along the St. Jude – Mwechoboria roads and Riagamba – Nyatieko junction to regulate traffic and prevent accidents.
They claimed that in the last two months, 24 people have been hurt and 4 have died from road accidents at the spot.
Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kasses appealed to motorists to be more careful on the roads, especially during the rainy season.
