Police in Longisa, Bomet County have arrested a 58-year-old school watchman accused of defiling a four-year-old pupil at Longisa Sunshine Academy.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday evening while the child was waiting for her mother to pick her up from school.
According to Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga, the suspect, identified as Richard Towett, allegedly lured the PP2 learner into an empty room within the school compound and committed the offence.
The child later complained of pain while relieving herself at home, prompting her mother to raise the alarm.

Upon questioning, the minor disclosed that the school guard had locked her in a room and undressed her before assaulting her. Commander Imbwaga confirmed that officers arrested the suspect while he was still on duty at the school.
The child was taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital for medical attention and was later discharged. Authorities have launched investigations to gather forensic evidence and build a case against the suspect.
The incident has sparked outrage among parents and child protection advocates, with calls for stricter vetting of school staff and improved safety protocols for learners. Police have assured the public that the matter will be handled with urgency and sensitivity.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned once investigations are complete. Meanwhile, the school has been urged to cooperate fully with law enforcement and provide any necessary documentation to aid the inquiry.
