Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof. George Magoha, has directed government officials to mop up Form One students who have not joined secondary schools as government has already released capitation funds to schools. The CS said students joining public day secondary schools only need to report with school uniform.
The CS directed the officers to enroll the students in nearest public day schools which he says are free. He at the same time warned parents against keeping students at home.
The government has already released capitation of Sh22,400 as capitation to the schools for every child.
“The only thing they need is uniform to report to public day schools, we would like to know those saying the child should go home, we would like to see faces of those people,” he said.
The CS who visited Isinya in Kajiado County, for a mop up exercise towards achieving 100% transition policy, said the government will not tolerate parents having children at home since it is an offence.
While in Isinya, the CS inspected one of the private schools with a Junior Secondary School (JSS) wing, and reiterated that the government will inspect all private schools that will host JSS of which they will later give a report.
Magoha said over 6,000 classrooms across the country are nearing completion ahead of JSS transition.
Many students have come out seeking for help from well-wishers, claiming that they have not reported to school because of school fees.
15-year old Evaline Wairimu years from Kajiado North was seen in Nairobi streets on May 23 begging strangers for school fees, she is a student in Kihumbuini Secondary in Muranga County.
Her mother had withdrawn her from the school on May 9 due to lack of school fees.
