Muusini Primary School in Mavoloni, Yatta sub-county of Machakos county is appealing to well-wishers to assist in construction of classrooms and proper washrooms for learners.
The school Board of Management (BoM) Chair Boniface Mutinda told Education News that the school has already been issued with a notice of possible closure from the Ministry of Health due to dilapidated classes and poor sanitation.
He called upon the area Member of Parliament (MP) Robert Basil Ngui to intervene in facelifting the school’s infrastructure.
Mutinda noted that the dilapidated mud classes are no longer suitable for learning as some of the roofs were ripped off by strong winds two months ago and the remaining classes have no doors or windows.
“The school was opened in 1998 and has old classrooms, It has not been receiving projects from the NG-CDF for some time now, that is why we are asking our MP to hear our cry and do a facelift for the school which benefits many children,” said Mutinda.
The school Headteacher Mr. Kasungi said that previous efforts to get help from the MP’s office have been met with false promises, noting that urgent interventions were required before onset of the long rains.
He noted that the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Francis Kitaka had been helping as much as he could but more needed to be done.
