School in Trans-Nzoia comes top in Zambia athletic competitions

Two KCSE candidates from Andersen High School in Endebess, Trans Nzoia, have emerged winners during a competition in Zambia.

Brian Kiptum claimed victory in the 800 meters, while Samuel Toili secured the runner-up position in the 400 meters.

Additionally, Kiptum has also showcased his prowess in international competitions in France and Spain.

This mixed secondary school offers a diverse range of sports, including Athletics, Volleyball, Netball, and Basketball, with ongoing plans to further develop Handball and Leg Ball.

Under the leadership of Julius Mibei, the school’s principal, a strong sports culture has been instilled, resulting in a growing interest among students in addition to their academic pursuits.

In Athletics, the school has nurtured exceptional talents, including Josphat Kipkurui, a former student who secured a gold medal in the Men’s 1500-meter race at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

The school’s sports department also boasts who achieved second place in the 400 meters and 800 meters events at the national schools’ athletics competition.

Other standout athletes at the school include FAITH Chepchumba, Ezekiel Kipkembo, and Abigail Kipkorir, who have excelled in various track and field events.

Additionally, Andersen High School has made its mark in team sports, securing fifth place in the East Africa Secondary School Games in volleyball and eighth place in netball.

The transformative impact of the sports culture has not only led to students securing scholarships in the United States but also opened doors to job and playing opportunities within the disciplined forces.

Moreover, this sporting transformation has coincided with remarkable academic improvement, with the school achieving a mean score of 9.1 in the 2022 KCSE examination, a significant increase from 7.5 in 2021 and 5.6 in 2020.

The success of the school’s sports department can be attributed to a dedicated team, with individuals like Charles Omega coaching Netball, Bonface Sang overseeing Volleyball, and Joshua Temoi and Peter Wafula guiding Handball and Soccer Girls, respectively.
