School in Nyamira counts losses after dormitory inferno

Students, Parents and the management of Bobembe Boys Boarding Primary School in Nyamira County are counting following a fire that gutted down the school dormitory on Thursday.

According to the Head Teacher of the school Mr. Boniface Nyauma, the 8:00 pm fire was spotted by one of the teachers as students went on with their studies in their classrooms.

“The teacher raised alarm but by the time teachers combined effort with villagers to fight the fire it had consumed everything.” He said.

Mr. Nyauma said the dormitory accommodated 48 pupils who lost all their belongings in the fire.

“Luckily enough we did not lose any life during the melee.” He said.

He assured parents of the safety of their children saying he had made alternative arrangements for the accommodation of the affected pupils.

The school head who suspected an electric fault said police had started investigations to establish the cause of the fire.

Some o of the properties that were lost include mattresses, blankets, books and personal effects like soap and paper, toothpaste, basins, uniforms shoes, and sandals among other things.

It’s regretful that the adversity occurred at a time when the standard 8 candidates were preparing for their national examinations.

Bogichora Ward MCA George Morara expressed appealed to the pupils to remain calm as he assured them of some assistance from his office.
