A School Principal from Riondonga Twins High School in Kisii County is calling upon the government for urgent help after the rise in student population at his institution following the 100 per cent transition of learners from primary to secondary schools.
The population that has more than doubled from 350 to over 760 students has also caused teaching challenges to the school administration.
Mr. Hosea Kipngetich Kosgey, the school principal, while speaking to Education News in his office lamented that the school has land for expansion but he is yet to receive the necessary input on infrastructure.
“The school has a large jungle of land for expansion with six dormitories seating on it and needs more for the young boys and girls,” he said.
Mr. Kosgey added that the Parents Teachers Association has sacrificed much by building a new office, sinking a borehole, purchasing of a generator to arrest the usual power failures or power rationing in the area and they has also bought a school bus.
“The team was determined to house the young boys and girls despite also renovating several dorms, putting up new roofs and students still maintaining performance in national examinations every year,” he added, saying that last year, 69 students gained university entry in KCSE.
Mr. Kosgey therefore hailed the 14 member Parents Teachers Association led by James Kenani, school alumni for his efforts.
The principal, nicknamed ‘’Omomura Bweemeremo’ translating to ‘hard working man’, has shaped the institution that is now competing with the rest of schools on the same level both in performance nationally.
