School heads warned against withholding result slips over fees arrears

A Ministry of Education official has called on private schools to refrain from withholding learners’ results slips due to outstanding school fees.

This is after some school proprietors in Nyeri County were reported to have refused to release the slips to KCPE 2023 candidates with fees arrears.

Speaking during the just concluded Elimu Scholarship programme home visit interview sessions in Mathira West Sub County, Nyeri County Quality Assurance and Standards Officer (QASO) Sammy Ng’ang’a said that this is against the law.

“Every learner has a right to be issued with the results slip immediately after examinations results are out,” he said.

Ng’ang’a asked parents who are still finding it hard to obtain the results slips for their learners to report such incidences to the Sub County Education Offices.

He maintained that the results slip is property of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), and every school must release them to the respective learners.

A total of 1,415,315 candidates who sat for the 2023 KCPE exams are expected to join secondary schools from January 15.
