The Parliamentary Education Committee has cautioned school heads in the country against misappropriation of funds.

Committee Chairman Julius Melly lamented that some heads cannot account for the money, a situation he termed as uncalled for.

Melly who is the Tinderet MP, however noted they are collaborating with the Education Ministry to ensure funds are used for intended purposes.

“We have financial challenges and i ask principals to desist from any form of misappropriation. We will collaborate with the Ministry of Education to ensure funds are used for the intended purposes,” he said.

Speaking in his constituency, he called for the improvement of infrastructure in all public schools across the country.

Melly also welcomed the ongoing reforms in the Education Sector including the Competency Based Curriculum, noting that they will spur the country’s growth.

“The ongoing reforms in the Education sector are not good just for learning but for the growth of the economy as well. As a committee, we fully support the reforms and ask all Kenyans to do the same,” added Melly.

Maryanne Keitany of Aldai on her part blamed under-staffing for the poor performance of schools in the constituency, urging the government to urgently address the problem.

“Our schools are grappling with lack of teachers. This problem has led to poor performance in our schools and as the MP, I will push for hiring of more teachers to address the problem,” stated MP Keitany.
