The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) held a meeting with more than 120 Head teachers drawn from Gucha and Sameta sub-counties to brief them on the measures put in place to ensure smooth running of this year’s national examinations.

KNEC officers attached to the regions, Maurine Salim and Peris Baaru provided comprehensive guidelines on key dates and procedures for the administration of the Kenya Primary School Assessment (KPSEA) Kenya Intermediate Level Education Level Education (KILEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Speaking at Tendere Secondary School, Baaru underscored the importance of thorough preparedness of school heads as integral officials on whom all operations of the examinations will anchor on.

“The success this important National exercise will depend on you as major drivers of your centres so you must uphold all manners of decorum,” he said.

Baaru noted that exam containers will be opened at 6:00 am daily to enable smooth collection and transportation of papers to examination centres.

He said that among the changes introduced this year include; morning exams will be packaged in cartons with blue straps while afternoon papers will be packaged with black straps.

Other changes include mandatory switching off of cellphones by centre managers, invigilators, teachers and security officers in the centre.

Further, security officers will only be allowed to escort the examination from and to the containers without entering examination classrooms to avoid unnecessary panicking among candidates.

The thorough examination preparations come a week after the Education CS Julius Ogamba issued a stern warning against individuals who might be found meddling with the examination process.
