School heads decry congestions in Bungoma schools

As schools resume operations amid the pandemic that has swung the economy of the country to an uncomfortable zone, the government, albeit assuring Kenyans that everything has been put in place, school heads have decried the wanting conditions in the learning institutions.

In Bungoma County, school heads have been reported having denounced poor conditions in classrooms as well as the shortage of the same thus making social distance rule an almost impossible thing to observe.

Speaking to Education News, Deputy Head Teacher at Kibabii Boys’ Primary School Jane Tabani asks the government through the Ministry of Education to intervene and save the sinking boat.

Mrs. Tabani said the issue of inadequate classrooms in the institution checked in as learners who were previously in private schools stream seeking positions in the public schools due to the economic status of their parents or after their previous schools were closed following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have many learners from private schools for seeking admission, this being a public institution, we cannot reject them,” she said.

However, she pointed out that the school does not have an adequate water supply system, January being a dry season in the region.

“The school had harvested rainwater but due to the long pandemic holiday the collected water is presently unsafe for use, we, therefore, ask the government help us access clean water for use,’’

She, however, added that at the moment schools need to be supplied with clean piped water as directed in the Covid-19 protocols.
