School heads castigated for slow submission of NEMIS data for census purposes

Basic Education PS Dr Belio Kipsang' has decried the slow pace of submission of data to NEMIS for the ongoing education census.

The Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Dr Belio Kipsang’ has decried laziness by school administrations in uploading the required data and information on the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) and Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) to facilitate the on-going National Education Census.

The PS, speaking during the on-going 47th annual Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Conference and Exhibition in Mombasa today, revealed that only 10 per cent of schools have uploaded the data for the census exercise.

“I call upon principals and head teachers to upload the required data and information on NEMIS/KEMIS as soon as possible to facilitate the on-going National Education Census. I am told less than 10 per cent schools have uploaded the data,” he said.

He further urged the schools heads to give views and opinions on transition and placement to Senior School, including the institutions that will be offering the different pathways.

On sports and creative (Music & Drama),  he revealed that there is need to relook and shift from the current structure and management, urging the schools heads to give views on how to manage co-curricular activities better.

Also, the school heads were asked to be zero-tolerant to faults in audits, and that resources must be used prudently and accounted for accordingly.

Consequently, he assured them that the issue of funding for schools will be sorted out soon enough by the ministry.

“I wish to assure you all that issues of funding for schools will be addressed adequately in the next financially year. We shall ensure that the challenges faced during this and last financial years are resolved,” he added.
