Secondary school heads from Turkana County now wants the government to address an acute shortage of administrators within the area.
Area Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairman Thomas Lokuruka said the problem was so acute that some schools have only one principal and no other teacher.
Lokuruka said the problem has been causing a sense of insecurity to school principals.
He was speaking in Kisumu at the end of their meeting which was also attended by Turkana County TSC Director, Ali Hussein and his Ministry of Education counterpart Henry Lubanga.
Lokuruka said some school heads have at certain instances been forced to leave teachers who have been engaged by the respective boards behind when on official duties to the detriment of learning institutions.
The chairman at the same time said that newly posted principals should be inducted in order to make them more knowledgeable on school management.
Lokuruka said that the same will make the new heads to be familiar with their new environments.
Earlier in their conference, some principals said primary school teachers who have been promoted should also be inducted.
They said some of the new fellows have issues which need to be addressed via inductions.
Hussein advised the heads to pursue professional courses in order to make them more efficient.
He urged the heads to take care of their teachers in order to make their work easier.
“They will similarly look after the learners if you look after them and also respect them’ he said.
Lubanga also called on teachers to upgrade themselves via courses in order to remain relevant.
