Kirinyaga County secondary school heads have been advised to ensure that their school financial statements are signed by qualified professionals.
While facilitating during the KESSHA Annual Conference held at Travellers Beach Hotel in Mombasa, an internal auditor from the Ministry of Education (MoE) headquarters Gabriel Ngugi said that principals should be keen enough on the management of government funds sent to their schools.
He revealed that according to MoE new policies, principals, who are the accounting officers at school level, are required to ensure that accurate financial records are kept for easy reference.
The internal auditor further warned the school heads against allowing their financial statements to be prepared and signed by quacks.
“Since schools do not have qualified accountants, then the Board of Management (BoM) chairman or the principal should sign the school financial statement statistics. It would sound more appropriate that way,” said Ngugi, adding that the Public Investment Education Committee for county governments should strictly adhere to MoE’s new policies for smooth operations.
