School for the mentally handicapped appeals for financial aid

The Board of Management of Mundere Special School for the mentally handicapped is appealing to well-wishers for financial assistance to enable it construct permanent classrooms.


The school head teacher Philomena Odongo told Education News that the learning institution has moved out of St Andrews Mundere Primary School where it has been operating from to own land bought by Budalangi NG-CDF committee in 2017.

She said the 65 mentally impaired pupils at the learning institution have been encountering scores of challenges in their new classrooms that have been covered with iron sheets.
She however commended some of the well-wishers who had offered to support the learning institution in kind.

The school head also urged parents with children with various disabilities to hand them over to the teachers at the school so they can be taken through a special needs programme, adding that parents should ensure they protect them from any form of abuse.

Mrs Odongo noted the learning institution also requires two dormitories for girls and boys, permanent classrooms, male and female toilets and administration block among others.
