Ossen Girls National School in Baringo North is the latest institution to transition its kitchen to clean fuel.
The school is among few schools that have embraced the government agenda in pursuing clean and green growth to mitigate climate change through cuddling environmental friendly options.
Kenya is among parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) that was convened in Egyptian coastal city of Sharm El-Sheikh to establish and operationalize a loss and damage fund to mitigate reeling impacts brought by adverse effects of climate change.
Speaking during School Thanksgiving event, Executive Director, Education Reforms and Junior Secondary Education Reforms and Junior Secondary Education Programs Dr. William Sugut praised the school for milestone achievement on green energy as espoused by government.
Dr. Sugut lauded the institution for heeding government’s call and challenged other schools to join in the efforts in addressing adverse effects of climate change in the country.
He singled out Ossen Girls High School as one of the schools that has initiated approaches that are in tandem with government master plan to tackle climate change.
While extolling their good performance in their last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) the educationist noted that the school should diversify and lead in all fields.
The School Chief Principal Reverend Edith Koech said since adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) the school has saved resources.
“As an institution, we want to be part of the journey in shift to LPG by 2025 as advocated by government.
The path to clean energy is undoubtedly achievable if all schools embrace it ,’’ said Rev. Edith Koech.
