A devastating fire has engulfed a dormitory at St. Catherine Iranda Secondary School in Kisii County leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
According to the school Principal, the mystery unfolded at 8:00 pm, a time when students were gathered for their evening parade, completely unaware of the impending disaster.
He said that firefighters from the region rushed to the scene in a desperate attempt to extinguish the blaze, but their efforts were in vain as the fire had already taken a firm grip on the structure.
Principal said that the cause remained unknown but had taken the proactive step of inviting Kenya Power and Lighting Company to investigate.
“Luckily, no students were harmed physically even though they lost all of their belongings to the merciless flames,” he stated.

The school head further appealed to the community and well-wishers to come forward and support the affected students by providing essential items such as blankets, mattresses, soap, basins, and materials to help them start afresh.
Kisii County director, Philip Chirchir, visited the institution to assess the situation and shed light on the cause of the fire.
However, he said that the cause remained shrouded in mystery, with no immediate explanation available.
This tragic incident also caught the attention of local officials, including members of Kitutu Chache South NG-CDF office, who conveyed a message from area MP Anthoney Kibagendi.
The MP promised to assist in the renovation of the burnt dormitory, offering a glimmer of hope in the midst of adversity.

Meanwhile, Kisii County police initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and emphasized the importance of vigilance among teachers to prevent such incidents during the critical period when schools are preparing for national examinations.
