Residents of Mutha ward, Kalambani location of Kitui South are living in fear after a primary school boy was murdered by rogue camel herders as he headed to school in the company of his peers who escaped.
Postmortem results revealed that the boy succumbed to excessive bleeding from a deep cut in his head.
Kitui South MP-Elect Rachael Nyamai called upon the government to evict the camel herders who were forcing themselves on their land.
“People should not surrender their pieces of land. I am urging the police ensure that we have enough security as you evict the herders from our land,” said Nyamai.
Area Chief Isaak Kiling’a reiterated the sentiments and added that the number of children going to school had reduced significantly due to insecurity.
Former Mutha Member of County Assembly (MCA) Antony John urged elected officials and authorities to spearhead efforts for peace and unity in the area.
”We held a demonstration when I was the area MCA and the government heeded to our cry. Let’s not go back to where we have been in the past and forge ahead for betterment of our society,” said John.
A resident decried that they had been spending nights in the bush for fear of losing their lives.
“Let the government stop the habit of just coming to collect butchered bodies but let them be here before this butchery happens. As at now, about 21 people have lost their lives in the hands of these bandits. We are living in fear in our own land,” lamented the resident.
