The Board of Management (BOM) at Ibacho High school in Kisii County has admitted a student who has been at home since the release of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in March this year due to lack of school fees.
The School Principal Philip Ochoi told Education News that they were touched by the plight of the 13-year old Emily Kerubo Ondieki who was raised by her ailing grandparents.
The Principal appealed to well-wishers to assist the vulnerable student to raise her school fees and continue with her education.
The school’s deputy principal Peninah Maug expressed fear on the danger looming if the girl will not be able to continue with her education.
Ondieki sat her KCPE exams in Blessed Hope academy in Embakasi East, Nairobi and scored 376 marks in KCPE. She was selected to join Our Lady of Fatima Girls secondary school in Nyeri but was unable to owing to financial challenges.
Her grandparents raised concern when they discovered that Kerubo and her siblings were out of school and living under difficult conditions in Nairobi, with Kerubo stating that she was willing to join any school and work hard to achieve her dreams.
Kerubo’s grandfather Josephat Gisemba lamented over their inability to educate the children citing their poor financial conditions and poor medical conditions.
