School accused of admitting talented student without parents’ consent

Musingu High School, which has been accused of poaching a talented footballer from a neighbouring school without the knowledge of parents.

A school in Kakamega, Musinga High School, has been accused of admitting a student apparently for his soccer skills without the consent of his parents.

The talented footballer George Omondi, who had been admitted to St Mary’s Yala riding on Michael Olunga Football Association (MOFA) scholarship, was enrolled secretly in Musingu on 17 January 2024 through a letter of admission dated December 20, 2023.

A letter from Wambilianga Majani and Associates, acting on behalf of the minor’s parents and addressed to Musingu High School  Principal, indicated that the boy was  removed from Yala by coaches who lied to the school that he had lost his sister and was needed at home for the funeral and burial.

“The boy was later admitted to the school in Form One without his parent’s permission and a total disregard to the law and warning from the principal St Mary’s Yala,” Part of the letter read. This is contrary to the provision of the children act.

The parents now demand that the said minor be returned to his rightful school immediately, failure to which legal action both against the school and the individuals involved will be instituted in connection with the abduction of the boy.
