Scholar urges parents nurture talents of their children as Milimani Excellence school holds graduation

Parents and guardians of Milimani Excellence School have been implored to identity talents of their children and nurture them for the children to exploit and benefit.

Kisii University Lecturer, Dr Norah Nyaiyo noted that children have potentials which can be exploited if their parents and guardians discover them early, talents helps people earn more and take them to places.

Speaking at Milimani Excellence school during the graduations of learners of PP1 to Grade one and Grade three to Grade four, she challenged the parents to motivate their children even if they are not performing well in their education.

“The tongue has the power to bless and curse. What you say to child will motivate him or her improve his in her education or affect him or her” Nyaiyo said

The scholar, hosted by the school’s Director and Founder, Prof. Henry Onderi challenged parents and guardians to be role models for their children and inculcate moral values in them to make them responsible and accountable citizens.

She appealed to the teachers to motivate and mentor the children so that they can exploit their potentials in education and extracurricular activities to boost their lives.

“I appeal to the teacher’s guide the children and give them proper knowledge and laud the  school for embracing French Language” Nyaiyo pointed out and implored the teachers to enlighten the community to prosper.

The scholar, who awarded the learners certificates appealed to the learners to be inquisitive to learn more and take advantage of the Competence based Curriculum to exploit their potentials.

Fred Onyambu, a curriculum support officer from the Ministry of education said the government has a shortage of teachers in Music, Home science Arts and Craft and urged students joining Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) to embrace the subjects to ease the shortage.

The officer, under the Teachers Service Commission assured the teachers the government will employ them once they graduate, saying, they are key in the implementation of the new curriculum,

“The government also needs teachers in sign language and sports. We will not have enough even in ten years” Onyambu said.

He urged managers of private schools to offer Grade seven, eight and nine to reduce congestion in public schools by learners who graduate from private schools to the public ones.

Prof Onderi, who also hosted colleague Directors – David Mokamba ( Nyakoe Highway Academy) and Samuel Mbaka ( Elsie Academy)  lauded the parents for patronizing the school, adding, its enrollment had increased from five learners to 130, terming a milestone since its inception.
