The School Based Teacher Support System (SBTSS) training is set to change and improve the teaching of science, mathematics and English in west Pokot County. The training was reeently held across the whole county subsequently at sub-county levels.
In North Pokot sub-county teachers assembled at Kacheliba Girls Primary school, in Central Pokot Sub-county the training was held at Chesta Teachers Training College while in South Pokot Sub-County the training was held at Propoi Girls Secondary School and in West Pokot Sub-county the training was held at Chewoyet Boys National School and was officially opened by the West Pokot Deputy County Director Madam Jane Nyakoe.
The Deputy Director said that the training was important for retooling the teachers.
“As time changes teaching methodologies also change for instance the inclusion of ICT during the lesson” the deputy director said
At Chewoyet Boys the teachers who participated in the training were as follows in the secondary school subjects, mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and physics each had 20 teachers while “English 18 teachers participated.
In the primary school section, science and mathematics had 80 teachers each while in English 95 teachers participated.
Present during the opening ceremony for the training included Chief Principal of Chewoyet Boys National School Mr. Kiminisi S. B and Chairperson Madam Ruth Kisabit.
The SBTSS training at Chewoyet Boys National School was officially closed by the chairman of the CSO’s in west Pokot County and the CSO of Siyoi zone Mr. Nelson Musani.
Many teachers who attended the training confirmed that the training was a great milestone to their teaching career.
