The County Government of Bungoma is in talks with the Sang’alo Institute of Science and Technology (SIST) to donate a section of its land for the setting up of an industrial park.
SIST, located in Kanduyi Constituency sits on 550 acres of land which is currently under agricultural production.
Speaking to the press on Friday after an indoor meeting with the institution’s Board of Directors, Governor Kenneth Lusaka said that the industrial park will be beneficial to the school and the surrounding community.
“We found Sang’alo befitting for the establishment of the industrial park as it will provide students with an attachment site where they will get hands-on skills and training,” he said.
He added that the park will also open up the area for more development projects saying that he is currently in talks with Roads Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen to ensure that the roads surrounding the school are tarmacked to ease movement and promote trade.
“Last week we had a candid meeting with President Ruto in Eldoret and one of the issues we discussed was to upgrade the road status in our region,” he said.
Lusaka disclosed that the plans to elevate Sang’alo Institute into a national polytechnic are in the final stages.
“We are at the tail end of finalizing the upgrade of Sang’alo into a national polytechnic. The upgrade has been long overdue and this status will enable it to gain national recognition,” he said.
Lusaka dispelled rumours that national status was to be given to Matili Technical Training Institute in Kimilili and Kisiwa in Kabuchai Constituency.
“I have heard rumours going around that Kisiwa and Matili were to be elevated but I assure you that Sang’alo is the chosen one,” he said.
Lusaka’s sentiments were echoed by Kanduyi MP John Makali who lauded the governor for being on the forefront to push for elevation of SIST.
SIST Principal Dr. Rosebella Chukwu lauded the move saying that the Institute has all it requires to make it a national polytechnic.
“We have been yearning to see our institution become national, now this is the time to shine.” She said.
