The Safal MRM Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Mabati Rolling Mills Limited (MRM) in partnership with AutoXpress Limited have launched a transformative skills training programme in light vehicle mechanics.
The initiative was officially unveiled during a breakfast event held at the AutoXpress Training School in Nairobi.
The programme which is sponsored by AutoXpress, the Safal Group and supported by Dunlop Tyres aims to equip needy youth with practical, job-ready skills for the automotive industry.
The initiative is part of AutoXpress’ corporate social responsibility strategy.
The program addresses the growing skills gap in Kenya’s automotive sector. It prepares the youth for employment and entrepreneurship within the automotive sector.
The comprehensive training programme includes classroom instruction, mentorship, and hands-on learning at AutoXpress training facilities culminating in real-world experience across its extensive branch network.

Chairman of the Safal MRM Foundation Sarit Shah said through the partnership the foundation is creating opportunities for young people and shaping brighter futures.
He noted that technical training is what the young people need to empower themselves, this will contribute to a more dynamic, innovative and sustainable future for the country.
Sandeep Shah, Managing Director, AutoXpress said the collaboration is essential in nurturing the next generation of automotive professionals.
The programme reflects AutoXpress commitment to youth empowerment and job creation through impactful, industry-driven training.
“The program is to equip young people with relevant skills to create opportunities and also be employable, we are planning to invest more in growing the program to cover more youth,” Sandeep said.
In 2024, Safal MRM Foundation had partnered with AutoXpress to bridge the gap between education and industry through skills development.
This strategic collaboration supports trainees in Light Vehicle Mechanics levels (II & III) at Mabati Technical Training Institute (MTTI).

In the year 2024, twenty students enrolled in Light Vehicle Mechanics training under the Youth Skills Programme. Eleven students are currently undertaking industry related trainings at different locations in Kenya.
The current 2025 cohort has 41 trainees enrolled, including six young women, reflecting progress in breaking gender barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field. The students are trained and enrolled for paid internship with others employed by the sponsors.
Veronica Auma, a technician who is a beneficiary of the training, said she gained real-time skills in vehicle servicing and diagnostics, customer service and professional conduct and also workshop safety and automotive tools handling.
She said that the training has empowered her in the field dominated by men and has been employed by one of the sponsors.
