Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has condemned the attack on the St Joseph’s Boys Kitale (JOBO)  goalkeeper during a heated semi-final clash between Musingu High School and JOBO at the FEASSSA Games on Thursday.

The incident unfolded at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega in the 85th minute, moments after Marvin Ashiundu netted a dramatic equaliser for Musingu. As celebrations erupted, fans invaded the field, and reports suggest the JOBO goalkeeper was struck by a stone while preparing to defend a free kick, forcing him to shield himself and miss the ball.

Amisi took to his official X account Thursday night to denounce the violence. “Such brutality has no place in youth sports,” Amisi wrote. “I strongly condemn the attack on the St Joseph’s Boys Kitale goalkeeper. These games are meant to nurture talent, not harm it.”

Amisi urged authorities to take decisive action against those responsible and called on fans to uphold peace and sportsmanship. “Kenya needs a renaissance in how we treat our young athletes. Let’s protect them, not traumatise them,” he added.

The match, which had seen Einstein Simiyu give JOBO an early lead in the 16th minute via a penalty, was called off with just minutes remaining. Organisers are expected to resume play on Friday, August 22, with 30 minutes of extra time or a penalty shootout to determine the winner.

The Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games are a regional showcase of school-level talent, drawing teams from across East Africa. The abandonment of a high-stakes fixture due to crowd violence has raised concerns about security and discipline at youth sporting events.

Organisers have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
