President William Ruto has urged parents to take care of their children to prevent them from indulging in drug use.

Speaking at AIC fellowship Church in Eldoret, Ruto said parents have neglected their duties and it is time they wake up and perform their roles.

“We have a serious crisis of drug abuse in our nation; parents starting from myself need to look out for our children. We need to take up a role in their lives and this will prevent cases of drug abuse,” said president Ruto.

This, he said, will ensure that the nation secures, protect children and youth from the dangers and threats of Drug abuse.

“There is a very big crisis; I recently appointed a new board of NACADA. I am working with all the arms of the government, even as we do that at the government level we must have a combined effort from the families,” president Ruto said.

He regretted that alcoholism and drug abuse was taking a toll on the lives of many youth across the country.

“To all those who are parents, let us work together to making sure that we are responsible for our children and responsible for our nation. I am asking for concerted efforts by all leaders and parents in fighting alcoholism. We must work together to save the lives of our children.

“Let us pray for the families and children in the country expressing concern over increased drug abuse that is threatening the lives of children and the future generations since it is only through prayer that we can defeat this issue,” he said.

Meanwhile, his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua has also made rallying calls in Central Kenya, asking for an end to indulgence of illicit brew that is ruining lives in the region.
