President William Ruto has instructed the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to absorb four teachers currently employed by the Kangemi Primary School Board of Management (BOM).
Speaking on Wednesday, February 25, the President issued the directive after the school president highlighted an acute teacher shortage that had compelled the board to recruit additional instructors to bridge the gap.
“I told the president that the ratio of pupils to teachers is imbalanced. We have enough classrooms, but the pupils cannot manage alone without teachers,” the pupil stated.

Ruto Directs TSC to Address Teacher Shortage
The Head of State responded positively, assuring the school community that adequate staffing would be addressed to serve the institution’s 4,100 learners.
“This January, we hired 20,000 teachers, and I know some of them will come to Kangemi Primary. The four teachers who are teaching in this school on BOM, tomorrow, we will transfer them to TSC so that we can add to the pool of teachers in the school,” Ruto stated.
The directive means the affected educators will now transition to full TSC employment terms, strengthening staffing capacity at Kangemi Primary.
Education Reforms and Expanded TSC Recruitment
The President was at the school to officially commission a new tuition block comprising 16 classrooms.
During an earlier visit last year, he had pledged to build 12 classrooms, a promise now fulfilled. The learners have since nicknamed the new block “Singapore.”
Reaffirming his administration’s education reform agenda, Ruto dismissed claims that the system had collapsed and outlined ongoing interventions involving TSC recruitment.
“We have hired over 100,000 teachers, built 23,000 classrooms and improved the university funding model, and we have a plan to employ the youth,” he reiterated.
The absorption under TSC is expected to improve teacher-to-pupil ratios and enhance learning outcomes at the institution.
He was accompanied by Johnson Sakaja, who pledged continued support through the ‘Dishi na County’ school feeding programme.
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi expressed gratitude to the President for delivering the classrooms and appealed for additional funding to fully equip the institution.
