President William Ruto has unveiled a national internship programme that will offer paid, one year internship to recent graduates under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
The announcement was made on July 15, 2025, during a State House address and later shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
The programme targets graduates in technical fields such as engineering, architecture, survey and construction management. It aims to equip young professionals with hands on skills while supporting the government’s broader effort to expand affordable housing across the country.

Interns will be attached to consultancy firms currently supervising construction projects. These include architectural, engineering and surveying firms working with the State Department for Housing.
According to President Ruto, the internships are designed to bridge the gap between education and job readiness. He stated that the government is bringing on board graduates to acquire the necessary knowledge and competencies under the supervision of experienced professionals.
The internships will be implemented through a partnership between the State Department for Housing and the Public Service Commission. Interns will receive monthly stipends and be assigned structured work roles in construction sites and project management environments.

Eligibility will be limited to graduates from public universities and accredited technical institutions. Those with qualifications in relevant construction related fields will be prioritized.
