Sang’alo Institute in the heart of Bungoma County is set to be transformed into a prestigious National Polytechnic, following President William Ruto’s directive during his one-week tour in the Western region.

The institute will also be made a digital hub to allow students to do their research as the President directed the extension of a fibre optic network to the Polytechnic within the next 30 days.

“Today I directed the ICT Authority to extend the optic fibre to Sang’alo Institute to ensure that it is connected to allow students to do their research,” Ruto stated.

Ruto told the press that the institution will also benefit from a public Wi-Fi project being implemented by the ICT Authority as a way of boosting the digital economy.

“The Government, in partnership with private sector actors, plans to roll out 25,000 hotspots across the country and so improve connectivity and bring all citizens online,” the head of state added.

Students, who once had dreams of pursuing their education elsewhere, can now access the finest online resources right from within their own town.

To improve the infrastructure of Sang’alo Institute, The President pledged to tarmac roads linking the Institute and the neighbouring towns.

He added that the Ministry of Education did research and found out that Sang’alo Institute qualifies to be a national polytechnic.

“I will have a cabinet meeting and Sang’alo’s elevation will be one of the agenda,” Ruto said.

Ruto added that the government will also procure 500 computers for the institute.

He also stated that the launch of the aggregated Industrial park at the school’s heart will offer an avenue for students who complete studies to get direct jobs, attachment and internship opportunities.

His sentiments were echoed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula lauding the President for the bold move to elevate Sang’alo noting that after the completion of the Industrial park the centre will grow into a big hub.

“This place is going to be a huge town and there will be roads linking Sang’alo and Bungoma town,” he said.
