Kenya’s secondary school rugby talent will be on full display as the 2025 National Rugby Sevens Games kick off this Wednesday, July 30, at the Bullring Sports Complex.
The tournament will take place from 30th July at the iconic Kakamega Bullring Grounds, bringing together elite school rugby teams from across the country.
The three-day tournament brings together top-performing boys’ and girls’ secondary school teams from across the country, competing for national honours in the fast-paced, high-intensity format of rugby sevens.
Day One of the games features a stacked lineup of matches as traditional rugby powerhouses and rising contenders face off in group-stage action.
Key fixtures include Bwake Boys vs Lenana School, Bungoma High vs Musingu Boys, Laiser Hill vs Gede Boys, and Saint Mary’s Yala vs Mpesa Academy. On the girls’ side, teams like Kinale Girls, Kimobo Girls, and Shimbahills Secondary will be looking to make a strong start in what promises to be a fiercely competitive division.

The momentum builds on Thursday, July 31, with more decisive clashes expected to shape the road to the quarterfinals. Boys’ fixtures such as Bungoma High vs Laiser Hill, Bwake Boys vs Kitondo School, and Saint Mary’s Yala vs Nairobi School are likely to attract large crowds. In the girls’ category, high-stakes encounters include Kinale Girls vs Shimbahills, Itigo Girls vs Karen C, and Saint Theresa vs Paul Harris.
Friday, August 1, marks the climax of the tournament, with knockout rounds and placement finals scheduled throughout the day. Teams will compete across multiple brackets—including 13th place, 9th place, 5th place, and the Main Cup—with the Main Cup Final serving as the pinnacle event that will crown the national champions of the 2025 Rugby Sevens Games.
This comes after the pools for the 2025 National Rugby Sevens Championship was officially announced ahead of the Term Two Secondary School Games.
iin the pools defending national champions Bwake Boys, who also clinched the Rift Valley regional title, headline Pool A. They will face Eastern Region champions Kitondo School, Nairobi Region runners-up Nairobi School, and Eastern Region runners-up Marsabit Mixed.
In Pool B, Western Region runners-up Bungoma High will battle it out with Laiser Hill Academy, Musingu Boys—who qualified after the North Eastern Region failed to produce a representative—and Coastal Region runners-up Gede Boys.
Pool C features Nyanza Region champions Saint Mary’s Yala, Nairobi Region champions Lenana School, Central Region runners-up M-PESA Foundation Academy, and Coast champions Bishop Baldachinno. This pool promises tough competition, with some of the country’s top schools drawn together.

Pool D is expected to be just as competitive, with Koyonzo Boys joining Western Region champions Saint Peters Mumias, Nyanza Region runners-up Anjego, and Central Region champions Alliance High School. Notably, Anjego was cleared to compete after a dispute with Otieno Oyoo was resolved.
North Eastern Region did not field any team for the championship, leading to Western Region being allocated four slots at the nationals—a significant boost for the region.
In the girls’ category, Pool A features Saint Joseph’s Kitale, Sigoti, Eregi Girls, and Gituamba. Pool B consists of Kinale Girls, Shimba Hills Secondary, Kimobo Girls, and Saint Mary’s Igoji. In Pool C, Saint Theresa will be joined by Paul Harris, Madira Girls, and Mbagathi. Pool D comprises Nyagichenche, Mwira, Itigo Girls, and Karen C.
The stage is set for a thrilling showcase of young rugby talent, as schools from across Kenya gear up for national glory in Kakamega.
Known for its speed, skill, and intensity, rugby sevens has rapidly grown in popularity in Kenya’s school system.
The National Games not only offer a platform for discovering new talent but also foster sportsmanship and unity among schools from different regions.
