18 Coast rotary clubs have set out to distribute 6,000 dignity packs for teenage boys and girls across the Coastal region, a move that seeks to improve hygiene among learners in public schools.

Speaking during the launch of the distribution initiative at Mahmoud bin Fadhil School, District Governor Nominee for Rotary D9212 Dr Joe Kamau hailed the initiative and added that it will curb absenteeism among learners who would miss school due to basic hygiene items.

“The initiative will cost at least Ksh 6 million and the dignity packs will improve the psychological, emotional and physical wellbeing of learners,” he said.

The dignity packs for girls have a year’s supply of sanitary towels, under garments, tooth brush, toothpaste, body oil and health talk while for boys will have a year’s supply of boxers, vests, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks and health talk.

Lamu Rotary Chapter President Gregory Mwaniki stated that the distribution initiative is their little way of giving back to the society.

“Our target is majorly girls in public schools and we will work closely with other partners to improve the social welfare of learners in Lamu,” he confidently said.

Lamu Women Representative Monica Marubu hailed the initiative and stated  that she will collaborate with Rotary Club of Lamu.

“The move by Rotary Club exemplifies the example that citizens can take in making their societies hospitable for all,” she said.

Lamu Director of Education Joshua Kaaga commended the initiative and added that it will help in the implementation of the stating that it would enhance the national government’s 100 percent transition policy.

The dignity kit initiative is sponsored majorly by Rotary Club of Magharibi and International Medical Aid, Guala Closure Group.
