Rose Aoko Otieno, the first female Executive Secretary of the KNUT Rachuonyo Branch since its inception, has announced her bid for the NEC 3 position in the upcoming KNUT National elections following a decisive victory in the recent branch polls.
During the union elections held last month, Otieno trounced her closest rival, Patrick Were Onyango, to clinch the Executive Secretary’s seat.
She garnered 1,078 votes against Were’s 748 votes.
Were, the former branch chairman, had contested for the executive secretary position in a tightly watched race.
The results reflected strong confidence from teachers in Otieno’s leadership and vision for the union.
Her victory followed the retirement of the former Executive Secretary, Eliud Mbori, who had served the branch for two consecutive terms and was constitutionally ineligible to seek re-election.
Otieno’s win marked a historic transition and ushered in a new chapter of leadership for the Rachuonyo Branch.
Otieno now at the helm of the branch leadership, brings over ten years of union experience, having previously served two consecutive terms as the KNUT Rachuonyo Branch Woman Representative.

Her leadership journey has been defined by integrity, fairness, professionalism and unwavering commitment to the welfare of teachers.
A teacher by profession, Otieno says her aspiration to vie for the NEC 3 seat is driven by the desire to offer stronger representation and effective advocacy for educators at the national level.
“My vision is to ensure teachers’ voices are heard, their rights protected and their welfare prioritized through transformative and accountable leadership,” she said.
Her agenda for NEC 3 focuses on unity, strategic engagement and empowering teachers to achieve their full potential through responsive union leadership.
Stakeholders view her candidacy as a boost to inclusive governance within KNUT, particularly in promoting women’s leadership in the trade union movement.
A Christian, a mother, and a devoted wife, Rose Otieno believes in hard work, unity and servant leadership.
As she embarks on nationwide engagements to rally support for her NEC 3 bid, her recent landslide victory positions her as a formidable contender in the KNUT National elections.
