A team of government officials were on Wednesday led by Nyanza regional commissioner Magu Mutindika in assessment of national government projects in Migori county.
Some of the projects started within the county and under the funding from the national government are a tuition block and a modern library with a capacity of 2000 and 3000 students respectively at Rongo University.
During his tour at the institution, Mutindika noted the projects at the university were aimed at enhancing infrastructure used by students at the college which in return would also help enhance social distancing at a time that the government is fighting the spread of Corina virus and particularly in the education sector.
“The government is dedicated to uplift the education sector through provision of necessary infrastructure that would promoted access to quality education in its learning institutions across the country,” noted Mutindika.
The regional commissioner in a statement to the press said the projects were valued at a total of Sh370 million for the tuition block and Sh 1.37 billion for the modern library up to completion.
He however urged the administration to ensure all the finer detailed finishing of the library which he ranked at 95% complete are all done before the facility can be put in use.
“We have agreed with the administration that all the finer details must be done to rank the building as a complete before it can start serving the students. The library is constructed in two blocks. One block with four floors and the other with five floors,” he explained.
He however noted that the projects were facing challenges of cash flow but promised to lead the team in making a follow-up to facilitate the contractor towards the completion of the building in 18 months as he had assured the government officials.
“The contractor has assured us that he can complete the construction of the library building in a span of 18 months if money and necessary materials are made available. Cash flow hitches have affected that and therefore I will make a follow-up on the matter to ensure it is completed and ready for use as scheduled,” Mutindika said.
