Rongo University eulogizes former MP Dalmas Otieno

Rongo University mourns Dalmas Otieno, Rongo Constituency former Member of Parliament and icon in the inception of its existence, who breathed his last yesterday at his Nairobi home.

Speaking to the Education News today, the university’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Samuel Gudu noted that it was with a heavy heart that they received the sudden demise of the former MP.

“It is with a heavy heart that we received the sudden demise of our former MP Dalmas Otieno but remain grateful to him even in his death for the immense support and contribution towards the existence of Rongo University.” Said Gudu.

Rongo University was formerly a constituent college of Moi University at the time when the government was pushing for the expansion of higher learning institutions in the country.

“It is the efforts of the late Dr. Bethwel Ogot and Dalmas Otieno who was the area MP that saw the birth of Rongo University from Moi Institute of Technology in 2012, when it was awarded its Charter.

“I want to mention that we have lost a great and brilliant mind whose contribution both locally in the economic and education sectors changed lives. On behalf of the Institution, I take the opportunity to send my sincere condolences to his family, the people of Rongo Constituency and the entire country for this great loss.”

Rongo University awarded the late with an honorary degree dubbed as Doctor of Arts (HON. D. ARTS) HONORIS CAUSA in recognition of his exemplary efforts in driving the rapid growth of Rongo University from a small Technical college.

The late has also been eulogized by various national leaders; President William Ruto said via his X-account, “Kenya has lost a visionary leader. Waziri Dalmas Otieno served our nation with honour, integrity, and distinction.”

President Ruto added that the late was a sharp, progressive, and industrious; a statesman whose ideas and leadership will continue to shape generations.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga written in his X-account mourning the late as a committed public servant who believed in the power of effective and efficient public service as the cornerstone of good governance.

The late shall be remember as a statesman who left indelible mark in the public service with reforms and policies which continue to affect service to date.
