Teachers have pledged to support Rongo MP Paul Abuor in his bid to defend the seat in the forthcoming general election.

Speaking at Rongo Primary School grounds in Rongo town during the grand launch of the MP’s campaign, the unionist noted that teachers face various challenges in their line of duty; therefore it was important to get the goodwill of elected leaders to help address some of the challenges within the education sector.

Led by KNUT Rongo branch Executive Secretary Eunice Bosco, the teachers noted it was important to elect into office leaders who value education and especially basic education.

Bosco applauded Abuor for supporting the education sector through bursaries to bright and needy students, as well as supporting infrastructure development in schools.

She warned leaders vying for various post in the forthcoming polls not to count on the teachers’ support if they have failed to positively impact and support the education sector.

“Education is an equalizer and before we come out to support your bid as an aspirant, then you must prove to value teachers and education in general,” she said, adding that their major interest was improving the education system.

She called on teachers to remain united under the leadership of the Union, saying it was the only way to achieve some of their goals in the fight for better working conditions.
