Rongai Sub-County Director of Education William Kipchumba has called on parents to take greater responsibility in guiding their children during the ongoing half-term break. Kipchumba emphasized that parental involvement is crucial in shaping the moral character and academic success of learners.

Speaking at a Thanksgiving ceremony held at Kirobon Girls High School, Kipchumba reminded parents that children require consistent moral direction and encouragement to grow into responsible citizens. He likened school-going children to “precious stones” whose value can only be realized if nurtured with care and discipline.

The education director stressed that both boys and girls should be accorded equal attention, noting that parental guidance plays a vital role in instilling good behaviour, improving academic standards, and shaping future skills. He urged students to respect their parents and listen to their advice, describing obedience and discipline as pathways to success both in academics and in life.

Kipchumba, who was accompanied by Rongai Sub-County Quality Assurance and Standards officers, alongside other guests, appealed to learners to embrace positive advice from their parents, saying that such counsel builds trust and strengthens their role in society.

Elsewhere, Kipchumba urged heads of education institutions to work closely with all stakeholders to improve school performance. Addressing participants at Kirobon Girls Senior School, he emphasized that academic excellence and character development are collective responsibilities.

He outlined the roles of different stakeholders, noting that principals must provide leadership, teachers should diligently deliver lessons, students must commit to hard work, parents should support their children, and Boards of Management must fulfil their oversight duties.
